Playwright and actor Ngozi Anyanwu returns to the role of Nkechi in the Off-Broadway premiere of her play Good Grief, which begins previews October 11 at the Vineyard Theatre. Awoye Timpo, who helmed the acclaimed premiere of Anyanwu's play The Homecoming Queen, directs.
Good Grief will officially open October 30. The story of a Nigerian-American girl navigating her childhood home in Pennsylvania’s suburbs, Good Grief is a first-generation coming-of-age journey of love, loss, and growing into adulthood.
Anyanwu returns to the role of Nkechi after having starred in the world premiere at Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles; she is joined in New York by a cast made up of Oberon K.A. Adjepong, Nnamdi Asomugha, Patrice Johnson Chevannes, Hunter Parrish, Ian Quinlan, and Lisa Ramirez.
Anyanwu's other plays include The Homecoming Queen, Victory Is Ours, and Nike or We Don't Need Another Hero, which was recently workshopped at The New Black Fest.
