Michael Aman, Dana P. Rowe, and Gustavo Zajac are at work on a new musical about renowned Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. The musical will receive a staged reading at The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis' 2019 Ignite! Festival of New Plays, running March 27–April 4.

Frida features a book and lyrics by Aman, music by Dana P. Rowe, and direction by Zajac. The new musical will delve into Kahlo's life, her art and indomitable creative spirit, and her complicated relationship with her husband, the painter Diego Rivera. The presentation will take place April 4 at 7:30 PM.

The Ignite! lineup also features Margo Connolly's comedy about the world of Bible Quiz, Quiz Out (March 27, directed by Shelley Butler), and Eric Schmiedl's adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, directed by Seth Gordon (March 30).

Notable shows previously showcased at Ignite! include Dael Orlandersmith's Until the Flood, which world premiered at The Rep in 2016, The Invisible Hand by Ayad Akhtar, Gidion's Knot by Johnna Adams, and Soups, Stews and Casseroles: 1976 by Rebecca Gilman.
