During a November 29 appearance on The Tonight Show, Mike Birbiglia announced his public search for his own understudy (sort of) for his latest solo show, The New One, currently playing the Cort Theatre on Broadway.

Friends had been asking him what happens if he can't do the show; Birbiglia currently does not have an understudy, so he thought, "Why don't I have a contest—it's on TheNewOne.com—you can submit a one-minute monologue from one of my other shows."
Interested contestants must record a video of themselves performing a one-minute monologue from Sleepwalk With Me, My Girlfriend's Boyfriend, or Thank God for Jokes.
The winner won't exactly become Birbiglia's understudy, but they will get to perform on Broadway and will be flown to New York City and earn a cash prize of $1,000. "If you win, you get to come out in mid-January where Ira Glass introduces you onto the stage before the show and you do this monologue. It's your Broadway debut," Birbiglia told host Jimmy Fallon.
Then, Fallon became the first person to audition. Watch the video above to see how he did. (Birbiglia's isn't the only show looking for audiences to submit video auditions for audience participation.)
