Playwright Mfoniso Udofia will lead the Flea Theater's Pataphysics Playwriting Workshop in December with a focus on “Writing the Epic.” The workshop with Udofia marks the return of the program, launched in 2001.
The workshops are an intimate, intensive opportunity for writers to create new work and explore new ways of working under the guidance of master playwrights. Playwrights Quiara Alegría Hudes (Miss You Like Hell, In the Heights) and José Rivera (Marisol, References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot) are also tapped to lead workshops later in the season.

Udofia is the playwright of the nine-part Ufot Cycle, which chronicles the life—the triumphs and losses—of a Nigerian immigrant woman living in America. Two plays from the cycle, Sojourners and Her Portmanteau, premiered at New York Theatre Workshop last season, with the Off-Broadway theatre tapped to produce two more plays from the collection, runboyrun and In Old Age, as part of its 2019–2020 season.
