Grotilde has completed her life’s work of losing the last 10 pounds, General Michail has proposed, and the President is up to her new tricks. This is the premise of Kate Tarker’s war comedy Thunderbodies, which opens October 27 in a world premiere from Soho Rep. directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz.
The play, described as a "grotesquely hilarious depiction" of an America through the looking glass, began performances October 16 for a limited run scheduled through November 18.
The cast is made up of Deirdre O’Connell (Terminus, Fulfillment Center) as Grotilde, Juan Carlos Hernandez (Wait Until Dark, Tell Hector I Miss Him) as General Michail Itterod, Mia Katigbak (Henry VI, Scenes From a Marriage) as President, Monique St. Cyr (Julius Caesar, ms. estrada) as girl, and Matthew Jeffers (Light Shining In Buckinghamshire, The Mysteries) as boy.
The creative team for Thunderbodies includes Matt Saunders (scenic designer), Oana Botez (costume designer), Yi Zhao (lighting designer), Chad Raines (sound designer), Thomas Schall (fight director), Ryan Courtney (props), Emely Zepeda (production stage manager), and Bonnie McHeffey (assistant stage manager).
Tarker is the recipient of the 2017 Paula Vogel Playwriting Award and has also been recognized as a finalist for the Princess Grace Award and as a semi-finalist for the Relentless Award. Other plays include Dionysus Was Such a Nice Man; God is Dead, Let’s Make Love; and Laura and the Sea.
