Michael Feinstein will conduct a tribute to singer-actor Liza Minnelli June 17 at the Los Angeles County Arboretum as the season opener of the Pasadena Pops Sierra Auto Concert Series, Broadway: The Golden Age. Among the featured soloists will be Minnelli’s Cabaret film co-star, Tony and Oscar winner Joel Grey.
Minnelli herself is scheduled to attend.
The concert will celebrate the music of Broadway composers Rodgers & Hammerstein, Kander & Ebb, Cy Coleman, Frank Loesser, and Jule Styne; with songs from Cabaret, West Side Story, Oklahoma!, Grease and other shows.
In a taped promo for the concert, Feinstein said, “To me the Golden Age of Broadway is an era of music and shows that are classic.... Like many things, Broadway has many golden ages and we're going to celebrate all of them.”
Other soloists include up-and-coming talents Alex Getlin and Storm Large. “Surprise” special guests are also promised.
The Arboretum is located at 301 North Baldwin Ave., Arcadia, California. Tickets for the 7:30 PM concert cost $10 to $135 and can be ordered by calling the box office at (626) 793-7172, online at PasadenaSymphony-Pops.org, or at the Arboretum on the day of the concert.
