The Dallas Opera will celebrate a homecoming this summer with the announcement that Ian Derrer, the organization’s former artistic administrator, will return as the opera’s newly appointed general director.
Derrer is currently general director of Kentucky Opera, a role he has held since 2016. Prior to that, Derrer served as artistic administrator of Dallas Opera from 2014 to 2016.
He will officially assume his new role at Dallas Opera in July. Derrer’s official title will be The Kern Wildenthal General Director and CEO.
Derrer took on his first administrative position at New York City Opera in 2004. He subsequently joined Lyric Opera of Chicago as rehearsal administrator, later serving as director of production and head of the rehearsal department. He is a graduate of the Meadows School of the Arts.
