West End Hamilton actor Miriam-Teak Lee is set to star as Juliet in a new musical that imagines Shakespeare's tragic character in different circumstances: What if her famous ending was really just her beginning, and what if she decided to choose her own fate?
Titled & Juliet, the new musical will feature music by Swedish songwriter, record producer, and singer Max Martin, including well-known pop hits of the last 25 years—Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time," the Backstreet Boys' "Everybody," and The Weekend's "I Can’t Feel My Face."
& Juliet will feature new arrangements by Tony and Grammy-winning orchestrator Bill Sherman. The musical will be directed by Luke Sheppard (In the Heights) with a book by David West Read (Schitt’s Creek), choreography by Jennifer Weber, costume design by Paloma Young, set design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Howard Hudson, and sound design by Gareth Owen.
& Juliet will play a limited season at Manchester Opera House September 10–October 12 before transferring to London's Shaftesbury Theatre November 2. The production will officially open in the West End November 20.
In the new musical, Juliet gets over Romeo by running off to Paris with Nurse and her best friends on a whirlwind trip of romance and self-discovery. Additional cast and creative team to be announced.
& Juliet is produced by Max Martin, Tim Headington, Theresa Steele, Jenny Petersson, and Martin Dodd. For more information visit andjulietthemusical.co.uk.
