Two lucky fans of Broadway's ht musical comedy The Prom were given the chance to watch the cast album being recorded—and Playbill readers are allowed in for a sneak peek!
Mike Haber and Hailey Goldstein were the winners of a contest that brought them into the recording studio with the cast of The Prom, led by Beth Leavel, Brooks Ashmanskas, and Caitlin Kinnunen, and Playbill was there to capture both the recording and their reactions to being in the studio.
Available in both digital and physical formats on January 11, the cast album captures the score—by songwriters Chad Beguelin and Matthew Sklar—that brings to life the story about being yourself, no matter what others think, say, or make you feel. Everyone should be able to follow their "unruly hearts," and that's the message that has made fans out of people like Haber and Goldstein.
Directed by Casey Nicholaw, the show features a book by his Aladdin collaborator Chad Beguelin and fellow Tony winner Bob Martin, music by Matthew Sklar, and lyrics by Beguelin.
The musical tells the story of an Indiana high schooler barred from bringing her girlfriend to the prom—and the group of eccentric Broadway folk who infiltrate the town in an earnest, misguided attempt to fight the injustice.
Rounding out the ensemble are Mary Antonini, Courtney Balan, Gabi Campo, Jerusha Cavazos, Shelby Finnie, Josh Franklin, Fernell Hogan, Joomin Hwang, Sheldon Henry, David Josefsberg, Becca Lee, Wayne Mackins, Kate Marilley, Vasthy Mompoint, Anthony Norman, Drew Redington, Jack Sippel, Teddy Toye, Kalyn West, and Brittany Zeinstra.
