The Roundabout Theatre Company production of Lydia R. Diamond’s Toni Stone officially opened Off-Broadway June 20 after beginning preview performances May 23. The production is scheduled to play a limited engagement at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre through August 11.

Toni Stone, directed by Tony Award winner Pam MacKinnon, tells the story of the first woman baseball player to go pro in the Negro Leagues, and the first woman ever to play professionally in a men's baseball league. Commissioned by Roundabout, the play is based on the book Curveball, The Remarkable Story of Toni Stone by Martha Ackmann

The world premiere stars April Matthis in the title role, alongside an all-male ensemble made up of Eric Berryman, Harvy Blanks, Phillip James Brannon, Daniel J. Bryant, Jonathan Burke, Toney Goins, Kenn E. Head, and Ezra Knight.
