Tony nominee Marin Ireland (Reasons to be Pretty) stars as Alma Winemiller alongside House of Cards actor Nathan Darrow as Dr. John Buchanan, Jr. in the Off-Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke. The co-production between Classic Stage Company and Transport Group began performances at CSC April 13 with an official opening set for May 3.
Transport Group Artistic Director Jack Cummings III directs a cast completed by Glenna Brucken as Rosemary, Phillip Clark as Dr. Buchanan, Sr., Hannah Elless as Nellie Ewell, Elena Hurst as Rosa Gonzales, Tina Johnson as Mrs. Bassett, Gerardo Rodriguez as Papa Gonzales, T. Ryder Smith as Reverend Winemiller, Ryan Spahn as Archie Kramer, Jonathan Spivey as Roger Doremus, and Barbara Walsh as Mrs. Winemiller.

Set in turn-of-the-century Mississippi, Summer and Smoke tells the story of a local minister’s daughter, Alma, and her relationship with the neighborhood doctor who grew up next door. The play premiered on Broadway in 1948 and was revived again in 1996.
Set design is by Dane Laffrey with costume design by Kathryn Rohe, lighting design by R. Lee Kennedy, and sound design by Walter Trarbach. Original music is by Michael John LaChiusa. Casting is by Nora Brennan Casting.
