Following the news that Dave Malloy's Ghost Quartet is heading to Australia, another one of the Tony-nominated composer's musicals is making its way across the seas. This fall, Malloy's Preludes, based on the true story of Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, will have its U.K. premiere at London's Southwark Playhouse.
Directed by Alex Sutton, the cast of Preludes will be made up of Rebecca Caine, Norton James, Georgia Louise, Tom Noyes, Keith Ramsay, and Tim Walton. Performances will run September 6–October 12.
Written and composed by Malloy, Preludes was seen Off-Broadway in 2015, directed by Tony winner Rachel Chavkin. Through detailing Rachmaninoff’s sessions of hypnotherapy in the wake of a disastrous world premiere, the musical examines how the dramatic and musical process can be used as powerful therapy.
Malloy is a Tony-nominated composer, writer, and performer whose critically acclaimed electro-pop opera, Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812, premiered on Broadway in 2016. His latest show, the a cappella musical Octet, continues its acclaimed and extended run at the Signature Off-Broadway.
