Acquanetta, a musical homage to the campy horror films of the 1940s written by composer Michael Gordon and librettist Deborah Artman, will play Bard SummerScape July 1–21.
The piece is directed by Daniel Fish, whose acclaimed staging of Oklahoma! is transferring to Broadway this year following its debut at Bard in 2015 and a subsequent run at St. Ann's Warehouse last year.
Acquanetta combines theatre, opera, and film to explore the world of a real-life B-movie star with a mysterious past, examining the ways the movie camera manipulates how we see and are seen.
SummerScape productions also include the dance piece Grace and Mercy, from Ronald K. Brown/Evidence (July 5–7) in addition to the Bard Music Festival presentations of Korngold and Vienna (August 9–11) and Korngold in America (August 16–18).
The Spiegeltent returns June 28–August 10 with its eclectic cabaret offerings.
