Dan Butler, seen last season in Travesties on Broadway, will appear Off-Broadway this fall in Marco Calvani’s dark comedy Beautiful Day Without You. Richarda Abrams and Anne Son complete the cast.
Beautiful Day Without You will play the West End Theatre (263 86th Street, New York) beginning November 1. The production, directed by Erwin Maas (Poison), will mark the Italian-born Calvani’s first full-length play written in English.
Billed as an exploration of gender and race in America, the new play tells the story of two neighbors in a Chicago suburb housing project who are brought together over an incident involving their dogs. An oddly co-dependent relationship develops as Janet, an African-American nurse, pursues legal action, and Bob, a middle-aged white man, becomes mysteriously ill. Investigating the dog attack is Rachel, an animal control officer who finds plenty of clues but very few answers.
The production designers are Guy Delancey (sets, lights, and costumes) and Fan Zhang (sound). Miriam Hyfler is the production stage manager.
Performances of Beautiful Day Without You will continue through November 25. For tickets and more information visit Origintheatre.org.
