Chita Rivera, Marin Mazzie, and Jason Danieley will pay tribute to Tony Award-winning playwright and librettist Terrence McNally at Classic Stage Company’s 50th anniversary celebration October 5 at Feinstein’s/54 Below in New York City.
The Off-Broadway theatre company chose the stars, who have appeared in multiple McNally stage projects including Kiss of the Spider Woman (Rivera, who won a Tony for her performance in the title role), Ragtime (Mazzie, who earned a Tony nomination), The Full Monty (which co-starred Danieley), and The Visit (in which both Danieley and Rivera appeared).
McNally and the three stars will take part in “an intimate evening of conversation and music” to benefit CSC, which is planning to present the world premiere of McNally’s Fire and Air, about the Ballet Russes, later this season. John Doyle will direct.
The prolific McNally is author of two dozen plays and musicals, including The Rink, Master Class, Catch Me If You Can, The Ritz, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, Love! Valour! Compassion!, and the current Anastasia. He has won the Tony Award for Best Play or Best Book of a Musical four times, and has been nominated seven times. He was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 1994 for A Perfect Ganesh.
Tickets for An Evening With Terrence McNally and Friends range from $100 to $500 and are available by contacting Leah Cox at [email protected] or by calling (212) 677-4210, ext 24.
