King Kong will make his Chinese musical debut when the 2,000-pound gorilla comes roaring onto a Shanghai stage in 2021.
Broadway producer Carmen Pavlovic and Roy Furman, announced the English-language production in conjunction with Harmonia, a Chinese-based theatrical group.
"There is already great anticipation and attention coming from Chinese audiences for this ground-breaking production, one that merges technology and art into an innovative world-class theatrical event," said Harmonia CEO and Founder Sophie Qi.

The musical adaptation of the 1932 novel is currently playing Broadway, with a book by Jack Thorn and music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect. The puppetry team, led by Sonny Tilders, was presented with Special Tony Award this month for the 20-foot, 2,000-pound gorilla brought to life eight times a week. Set designer Peter England, lighting designer Peter Mumford, and soudn designer Peter Hylenski also earned Tony nominations for their work.
