The York Theatre Company's ongoing Developmental Reading Series continues this fall with presentations of Michael Strogoff, Courier of the Tsar, based on the novel by Jules Verne, with book and lyrics by James Harris and music by Brad Ross; and Oh My God…Broadway!! with book, music, and lyrics by Karlan Judd.
The presentations will take place at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter’s (619 Lexington Avenue).
Michael Strogoff, Courier of the Tsar is a tale of adventure, romance, and deceit against the backdrop of 19th-century Russia. The musical follows the journey of Michael Strogoff, the Tsar’s newest courier, who is assigned the perilous mission of traveling to Siberia incognito to save the Tsar’s brother from an assassin.
Robert Cuccioli will direct a cast made up of Blaine Boyd, Andrew Howard (A Christmas Carol), Clair Rachel Howell (Into the Woods), Michael Hunsaker (Ragtime), Mark Montague (The Sorceress), Michael Padgett (A Letter to Harvey Milk), Taylor Pardell (Viva Las Nowhere), Rob Richardson (Tale of Two Cities), Kacie Sheik (Hair), Tina Stafford (Ionescopade), and Elanna White (Bully).
Presentations will take place October 18 at 7 PM and October 19 at 1 PM. Music direction will be by composer Ross.
Oh My God…Broadway!! is a satirical farce about four frustrated actors who hatch a plan—along with their mentor, agent, and long-time Times Square Diner employee Gladys—to kidnap the producer who decided to recast them with celebrity talent after a pre-Broadway workshop. The musical will be presented October 29 at 2:30 PM and 7 PM.
Tristan J. Shuler will direct a cast made up of Nicholas Barnes (The Dickens Project), Bonnie Milligan (Head Over Heels), Sally Struthers (Always, Patsy Cline), Thorgy Thor (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Cartreze Tucker (Motown, The Musical), and Michael Evan Williams (Mamma Mia). Music direction will be by Rich Silverstein.
