Following a successful run on Broadway, Paula Vogel’s Tony-nominated play Indecent headed to Minneapolis’ Guthrie Theater, where it has been re-imagined by director Wendy C. Goldberg. Performances began February 17 ahead of a February 23 opening night.
Goldberg is now in her 14th season as artistic director of the National Playwrights Conference at The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. She directs a cast at the Guthrie made up of Spencer Chandler as Moriz Godowsky/Accordion; Ben Cherry as Lemml/Ensemble; Gisela Chípe as Halina/Ensemble; Robert Dorfman as Otto/Ensemble; Steven Epp as Mendel/Ensemble; Lisa Gutkin as Nelly Friedman/Violin; Hugh Kennedy as Avram/Ensemble; Pat W. O’Keefe as Mayer Balsam/Clarinet; Miriam Schwartz as Chana/Ensemble; and Sally Wingert as Vera/Ensemble.
Gutkin, who composed music for Indecent with Aaron Halva, returns to the show from the Broadway production. She is also the show’s music director. The creative team for Indecent at the Guthrie also includes Yehuda Hyman (choreographer), Arnulfo Maldonado (scenic designer), Anne Kennedy (costume designer), Josh Epstein (lighting designer), Kate Marvin (sound designer), Alex Basco Koch (projection designer), Jo Holcomb (dramaturg), Jill Walmsley Zager (vocal coach), Jason Clusman (stage manager), Michele Hossle (assistant stage manager), Martin Damien Wilkins (assistant director) and Adin Walker (assistant choreographer).
