At Yorktown Stage, we believe in the transformative power of theatre to inspire and empower young minds. Our Youth Theatre program provides a creative, supportive and professional space for young performers to explore their talents, build confidence, and develop a lifelong appreciation for the arts. We emphasize the importance of professionalism and etiquette throughout the process. We are seeking a dynamic, passionate, and dedicated Youth Theatre Director to lead and mentor our talented group of young actors.

Position Overview:

The Youth Theatre Director will be responsible for overseeing the creative direction of our Youth Theatre program, including the development, rehearsal, and performance of theatrical productions. This role requires a strong ability to engage with children and teens, fostering their artistic growth and creating an inclusive, encouraging environment where all participants feel valued.

Duties include:

Direct and choreograph three Kids productions (ages 8-11) and two Junior productions (ages 12-16).

Create an environment that teaches professionalism and theatre etiquette.

Work with stage management and artistic staff to create a complete and cohesive rehearsal schedule.

Cast, rehearse and ensure a successful final performance in a timely manner.

Work with Stage Management to give clear instructions to the parents/guardians of the performers.

Arrive for each rehearsal prepared for that day's tasks and adhere to the rehearsal schedule.

Work with production staff and deliver costume, scenic and prop needs by established deadline.

Schedule:

Productions rehearse 3-5 times a week for 4 weeks. Rehearsals are held at the theatre in the evening hours (approx. 4-8:30pm depending on the age group) and on Saturdays (10-2pm). Season runs September through June.
