DESCRIPTION

UNTITLED Musical Project is now accepting applications for the the Spring 2026 UNTITLED Writers' Group! UNTITLED Musical Project is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting musical theatre writers of BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and their intersecting identities by fostering their work from inception. Through writers’ groups, developmental readings, dramaturgical support, and resources aimed to further artists’ professional careers in the creation of new musical theatre, UNTITLED creates a space and community where BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ writers can create bold, new, and challenging works.

The UNTITLED Musical Writers' Group is a space for marginalized musical theatre writers of BIPOC/Global Majority, LGBTQIA+/Queer, and their intersecting identities to develop new musical theatre in community and engage in supporting and critiquing their colleague's work.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I apply with a specific project?
A: No, the Writers’ Group is focused on process-over-product and supporting individual artists. Some people chose to work on one project over the course of the session while others work on multiple. There is opportunity at the end of the application to tell us more about your specific goals for applying to the writers’ group.

Q: I want to work on something that I haven’t started yet. Can I apply?
A: Yes! The Writers’ Group is an excellent place for your freshest project. In the application we ask for work samples to get a sense of your previous work, but feel free in the open question at the end to tell us about your latest idea.

Q: Can my collaborator and I apply as a team?
A: No. The Writers’ Group supports individuals artists rather than specific projects, so we ask that writers apply individually regardless if they write alone, with only one collaborator, or with many collaborators. There are, however, opportunities in the Writers’ Group for artists to bring in collaborators to hear their work and gain feedback together.

Q: I want to learn more about writing musicals. Is this the right group for me?
A: While there are many institutions that offer education on the craft of musical theatre writing, the Writers’ Group is a professional space for writers who are currently working in the field to share work in progress and gain peer feedback. If you are looking to learn how to write your first musical or work on your craft in an educational environment, we recommend that you check out the bios of some of our past writers to see where they’ve all honed their craft!
