DESCRIPTION

Ozark Actors Theatre seeks a responsible and effecient Technical Director to lead one master carpenter and a group of volunteers on the build/execution of two scenic designs for the musicals The Addams Family and Young Frankenstein. The designer is the same for both productions and many elements of the Addams set will transer over to the Young Frankenstien set. Once the second show goes up, the remainder of your weeks with OAT will be as a standby in the event anything on the set needs repair. The active days of building will be from May 19-July 8th. There will be shorter work weeks between productions opening if work is handled ahead of schedule. We ask that the TD work on the same schedule as the rest of the company. 40 hours weekly, with Monday being the day off. The day(s) off can be moved based on needs with load in etc. Below is the outline of job duty. Please note line 14, we will have remote production meetings pre season.

Scope of Responsibility and Services to be Provided:

This is list is designed to reflect the key expectations and outcomes. The list is not all inclusive. Other duties deemed reasonable by the Company may be assigned as needed to accomplish overall production objectives.

1. Communicate and execute plans with Scenic Designer(s) based on layouts, blueprints, and paint elevations.

2. Lead the scenic build for THE ADDAMS FAMILY and YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN.

3. Control the given budget for each production/the overall summer, create supply and build lists, organize or execute the purchase of said supply and build list.

4. Organize and notate your receipts in the given system provided by the OAT treasurer and board.

5. Organize and schedule volunteer labor for builds, load ins, and strikes.

6. Maintain a safe and clean shop. Work with the regular staff at OAT to create a viable workspace for the professional season.

7. Work with Producing Artistic Director (PAD) and Stage Management team to create a reasonable build schedule around rehearsal hours in the OAT studio/annex.

8. Creatively navigate the designers’ needs vs. budgetary restriction.

9. Oversee all technical aspects for the productions and help guide production meetings alongside Producing Artistic Director with the staff.

10. Schedule and lead one-on-one design meetings with Producing Artistic Director and Director prior to first production meetings; lead one-on-one design meeting with scenic team.

11. Provide Producing Artistic Director and Directors with updates, planning materials, and other objectives by deadlines established by Producing Artistic Director.

12.Work with Production team on interdepartmental cross over needs in regard to electrics, props, costuming, etc.

13. Collaborate with OAT board and staff on the tools necessary to accomplish the building of each set. Assess those tool needs, work new tool purchases into the season budget given, or if you choose, use your own tools on the builds to accomplish the said tasks.

14. Participate, and in some cases help the PAD lead, all production meetings pertaining to show via phone or other means prior to residency.

15. Attend all production meetings in person once in residence and help PAD lead meetings in areas pertaining to scenic and light departments.
16. Attend rehearsals as requested; attend tech rehearsals.
17. Provide oversight, guidance, and assistance to technical crew, and volunteers related to painting and painting schedule.
18. Work with the Stage Management team to schedule and lead all aspects on the building of scenic, load-in, strike, and shop supervision. Coordinate with Scenic Designer and shop volunteers on execution of deadlines and schedules.
19. Abide by the rules set out in the Equity SPT 5/ITC contract between Actors Equity and Ozark Actors Theatre governing the production. The production will be cast, rehearsed, and performed under the rules of an Equity SPT 5/ITC Agreement.
20. Collaborate with production team, technical crew, and cast as needed for a successful production.
