Surflight is Resident stock and actors will be hired for consecutive contract. HOLIDAY INN is a stand alone production.

Nicely-Nicely Johnson - Just like his name suggests, he is the nicest and cheeriest of the gambling crooks. High-spirited and a bit naïve, but sincere and genuine. Nathan's loyal friend and lackey. Male, 30 to 45, Db3= Bb4

Benny Southstreet - Nathan's right-hand man and a gambler himself. Smart, slick, always moving and shaking, but with what he thinks are Nathan's best interest at heart Male, 30 to 45 Db3 – G4

Sarah Brown - A pretty, bright-eyed woman who serves as Sergeant of the local Mission. She fully believes in her worthy cause and wishes to convert the gambling sinners to saints. Falls unexpectedly in love with Sky along the way. She is prudish and uptight, but eventually lets go Female, 20 to 30, Bb3-G#5

Arvide Abernathy - The bass drum and cymbal player in the Mission band, he is Sarah's loving grandfather. Wise and sweet, he wants nothing but the best for her. Male, 50 to 75, D3- E4

Harry The Horse - A crook and gambler. He is a tough guy with dollar signs as his bottom line. Brings Big Jule into Nathan's craps game and backs his cheating, but is also a man of his word in the gambling community. Male, 35 to 5, F3=G4

Lt. Brannigan - A New York police officer who is on to Nathan's illegal craps games and is dead-set on catching him. A tough, no-nonsense character. Male, 40 to 60

Nathan Detroit - A good-hearted gambler and craps game organizer who could never hit the bigtime. He loves Adelaide, but cannot quit his gambling ways. A broke schemer with unwitting ways. Male, 35 to 50, D3- F4

Miss Adelaide - Nathan's fiancé and a lead performer at the Hot Box nightclub. She loves Nathan more than anything in the world and desperately wants to get married. Pretty, outspoken, stubborn. Female, 35- 45, Ab3- Eb5

Oda Mae Brown – 20s – 40s, black female, spiritual advisor at a storefront séance parlor in Brooklyn, told as a child that she had “the gift” by her mother and grandmother (who were both able to communicate with the dead). Larger than life, able to play for laughs but with sincerity and truth. Vocal Range: G to E

Carl Brunner – 20s, lead, male, “friend” and colleague of SAM. Strong actor and singer who becomes corrupted and jealous of everything that SAM has, including MOLLY. Vocal Range: F to G

Willie Lopez/Ensemble – 18–20s, a Puerto Rican male, streetwise criminal. Not a singing role.

Subway Ghost/Orlando Jones, Ensemble – Male, any age. He believes the trains are his because he was pushed onto the track and killed. Aggressive and powerful, a good physical actor is required. He must be able to fight with SAM and physically and emotionally dominate him. Not a singing role.

Hospital Ghost/Lionel Ferguson, Ensemble – Can be played by a male or female and is one of the first ghosts that SAM encounters and is usually played older but not necessary. A good comic actor and singer. Vocal Range: C to A

Kathy, Female, Late 20s-30s: reasonable, organized leader. Projects competence and is even keeled. But her need to organize is really a need to control events eventually falls away as she realizes there is more to the world than her small-town rules she was brought up on. With her fear of change overcome, she allows herself to become a true seeker of truth & purpose, and a person of flexibility and wisdom. Strong mix to E.

Mary, Late 20s-30s: most nonconformist of group, free spirit with a rebellious streak, bridling at limits put on her. Most original thinker within group, comes from a difficult home life, feels like an outsider within the society of small town. By end of play she is a successful, independent & modern woman. Bella – A young married woman, with possibly a nervous disposition. Bella loves and trusts her husband, and only begins to doubt his sincerity when circumstances force her to do so. As the story progresses, she must accept a new reality, and find a strength – and cunning – she didn’t know she had. 20s-30s

Jack – Bella's husband, 35-40, debonair and charming. Jack is the most loving, sympathetic and supportive partner he could possibly be, or so it seems for most of the play.

Elizabeth – The housekeeper, 50s-60s, hard of hearing. A lifetime “in service” has taught her to remain as dutiful and discreet as possible, and to keep her opinions to herself except in extreme circumstances.

Nancy – The young housemaid, her eye on the main chance. Smart and perceptive, she thinks she sees an opportunity to outsmart everyone. 20s
