Vanguard Theater Company – Elmer, NJ

Vanguard Theater Company is seeking Audio Technicians (A1 & A2) to join the technical team for Summerstock 2026, our residential summer theater program for young artists.

Summerstock brings together a company of campers and professional staff to produce multiple full-scale productions in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. We are looking for audio team members who are organized, proactive, and excited to help create a supportive artistic space for young performers.

The audio team is responsible for the full care, operation, and management of all sound equipment from load-in through load-out, ensuring that systems remain organized, functional, and properly maintained throughout the summer.

A1 – Lead Audio Technician / Sound Designer

The A1 will serve as the lead audio engineer for the summer and oversee all sound-related elements of the productions.

Responsibilities include:

• Designing and managing the sound systems for Summerstock productions

• Programming and operating the sound console during technical rehearsals and performances

• Managing wireless microphone systems and frequency coordination

• Supervising the A2 and coordinating daily audio department needs

• Maintaining the organization, safety, and functionality of all audio equipment

• Troubleshooting technical issues in rehearsal and performance settings

• Leading audio setup during load-in and coordinating strike at the end of the season

A2 – Audio Technician

The A2 will assist the A1 in operating and maintaining the audio department throughout the summer.

Responsibilities include:

• Assisting with wireless microphone distribution, labeling, tracking, and maintenance

• Supporting setup, testing, and troubleshooting of audio equipment

• Assisting with backstage audio needs during rehearsals and performances

• Helping maintain organization and care of all audio equipment

• Supporting load-in, daily setup, and strike

Ideal Candidates

• Experience with live theatrical sound systems and wireless microphones

• Strong organizational and communication skills

• Ability to work in a fast-paced rehearsal and performance environment

• Experience working in educational or youth theater environments is a plus
