Stagehand: Audio Department

Little Island seeks stagehands with a focus in audio to join the Artistic Programming Department. In this role you will be responsible for installing, operating and maintaining audio elements for a wide range of multi-disciplinary events and performances in service to achieving Little Island’s artistic goals.

A successful audio stagehand will be a flexible team player with a passion for supporting artistic goals, strong problem-solving skills, a keen ear for audio quality and experience in entertainment industry audio technician work. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, prioritizes safety and values hospitality in all aspects of their work. These positions are governed by Little Island’s collective bargaining agreement with IATSE Local One and report directly to the Production Manager.

Audio Department Roles and Hourly Rates

  • Amph A1: $41.00/hour

  • Operate the front-of-house audio mix, archival recording and playback for all Amph performances.

  • Supervise in daily stage setup, maintenance and breakdown calls.

  • Participate in seasonal and project-specific load-ins and load-outs.

  • Amph Monitor Engineer: $37.04/hour

  • Set up and breakdown backline and other onstage equipment.

  • Operate independent onstage monitor and/or IEM mixes, as applicable.

  • Maintain intercom, video and other backstage infrastructure.

  • Amph A2: $37.04/hour

  • Set up and breakdown backline and other onstage equipment.

  • Place microphones on performers.

  • As needed, operate independent onstage monitor mixes.

  • Maintain intercom, video, and other backstage infrastructure.

  • Glade A1: $41/hour

  • Operate the front-of-house audio mix and archival recording for all Glade productions.

  • Supervise daily set up, maintenance and strike calls.

  • Collaborate with artists to advance their technical needs prior to onsite work.

  • Lead soundchecks, ensuring that technical excellence is maintained in all Glade performances.

  • Glade A2: $37.04/hour

  • Set up and strike backline and other onstage equipment.

  • Place microphones on performers.

  • Serve as monitor engineer for all Glade performances.

  • Audio Overhire: $34.39/hour

  • Serve as overhire audio stagehand, A1, A2, or monitor engineer as needed for project specific load-ins, load-outs, show runs and maintenance calls.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate closely with the Production Manager, project-specific designers and other Artistic Programming staff to ensure the successful execution of the technical requirements for a variety of events.

  • Prepare, load-in, maintain and load-out audio equipment on our outdoor stages, both seasonally and on a day-to-day basis.

  • Troubleshoot audio equipment as needed.

  • Work collaboratively on interdepartmental tasks, including stage setup and equipment maintenance.

  • Adhere to Little Island’s safety protocols and actively contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

  • Perform other duties related to the park and its artistic programming operations as assigned.

What You Bring

  • Experience programming and operating Yamaha Rivage-series consoles across a variety of genres and formats, both at FOH and/or as a monitor engineer, including line-by-line mixing.

  • Knowledge of backline setup, RF coordination and maintenance, Dante networking and general audio troubleshooting techniques.

  • Hands-on experience with Clear-Com Freespeak, d&b R1, Reaper and Figure 53 QLab.

  • Familiarity with theatrical A2 practices.

  • Strong interest in working in public performance settings, with a focus on guest interaction as a key component of daily production work.

  • Knowledge of aerial lift operation (including scissor lifts and articulating boom lifts) is a plus.

  • A commitment to fostering camaraderie and excellence by proactively collaborating and problem-solving across departments.

  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. overhead for sustained periods.

  • Comfort with safely ascending and descending ladders.

  • Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends.
