Reporting to the Assistant Director, DHKT Production, the Stage Supervisor is responsible for assisting with show coverage duties for the Theater’s rental clients on an as-needed basis.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the DHKT IATSE crew(s) and ensure that work rules and house policies are followed.
  • Coordinate with Stage Management and House Management to ensure that house is handed over at top of show and intermissions.
  • Communicate with building engineers for HVAC adjustments.
  • Liaise with the show team for any show needs as they arise.
  • Collaborate with Front of House and the Building Operations team for any security or porter needs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED
  • 3–5 years professional backstage or technical theatre experience in a union or nonprofit environment
  • At least 1 year of crew leadership or supervisory responsibility
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in stage operations (carpentry, rigging, lighting, or audio)
  • Ability to work within IATSE jurisdiction and applicable collective bargaining agreements
  • Strong knowledge of safety practices and live performance operations
  • Degree in theatre or related field preferred but not required

Work Environment

The Stage Supervisor works in a high-capacity, fast-paced theatrical venue, moving between active stage/backstage areas during load-ins and professional front-of-house spaces for client liaison. The role involves exposure to industrial conditions—including noise, rigging, and heavy equipment—alongside administrative duties in a production office.

Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment where schedules are subject to change based on production and event requirements.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the minimum requirements of this position:

  • Candidates must be comfortable with the physical demands of standing for 8–12 hour shifts and navigating a large-scale facility during irregular on-call hours (early mornings, nights, and weekends).

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is an hourly on-call, non-exempt position. Work hours vary according to the event schedule and may include early mornings, nights, and weekends, holidays, and other scheduled work periods as necessary.
