ABOUT THIS PROJECT:
EcoDisaster in the Hundred Acre Wood
New Musical
100 years ago Winnie the Pooh and his friends were introduced in an English magazine. Since then they have been endlessly adapted and taken on countless reimaginings by readers around the world. Now, Washington Park in Brooklyn takes up the role of the Hundred Acre Woods. The familiar characters are older and the Forest is under threat from the impacts of climate change and an encroaching pipeline project. We see Winnie the Pooh and friends co-existing in a somewhat neglected habitat, their ‘retirement community’. They lovingly bicker and exchange grievances about their situation.
We’re looking for actors with strong musicianship. For this upcoming May 2026 production, we’ve envisioned a site-specific show where actors play instruments in a jug band as they traipse around Old Stone House and Washington Park - transforming it into the 100 Acre Wood!
Songs will be led by guitar, banjo, and piano, accompanied by instruments like washtub bass, washboard, jugs, spoons, buckets, and bottles. If you have another instrument you love playing (Concertina? Flute? Violin? Tuba?), we’d love to find a way to incorporate it into the score.
The play explores themes of aging and disability. The reality of this production dictates that actors must be able to walk, as well as climb stairs. But we’d love to build a cast that reflects Brooklyn’s diversity of ages and abilities. If you have limited mobility or are differently abled, don’t hesitate to apply - we will accommodate.
The project is in continual development and has a long life ahead of it as a touring production through NYC and beyond. We want to find a cast that is excited by the material both for its elements of literary nostalgia surrounding the original Winnie the Pooh books, and for their urgent passion to engage with the current environmental landscape.
Listed vocal types are flexible, and we’re very willing to adjust music to fit the cast’s vocal range.
