DESCRIPTION
Plot: Cock, the hit comedy by British playwright Mike Bartlett, is about John, a gay man, who has been in a relationship with his partner for seven years. But when he meets and falls in love with a woman, he is forced to contemplate the boundaries of his identity and decide what he really wants for his future. It is a hilarious and touching look at the difficulties that pop up when you realize you have a choice.
LOOKING FOR:
JOHN (25-35, male-identifying)
Lead of play. Experiences identity crisis after falling in love with a woman (W) while in a long term relationship with a man (M). Deeply indecisive and confused. He is often depicted as selfish, "wilting," or a "lost boy" needing direction. However, he is also described as "enormously appealing" and, despite his volatility, the focus of the others' longing. Queer performers are encouraged to audition.
F (40-60, male-identifiying)
Father to M. A stern presence in the latter half of the play. Represents an older generation of men who tolerate modern society but hold vivid memories of how things used to be in the olden days. He is characterized as a "blusteringly protective" and "judgmental" figure who pushes for a binary, traditional definition of sexuality.

OVERVIEW:
Rehearsal period is May 11th to June 15th, ranging from 3 to 5 times a week. The schedule will primarily depend on actor availability; it is a small cast, therefore we want to accommodate as much as possible.
There will be a 12 show run at the East Village Basement from June 16th to June 28th. Directed by Jaclyn Bethany. Produced by Monster Troupe Theater Company. $1000 stipend.
