Proximity by Craig Winberry
A New Short play
Play Description
On a New York City street corner, a chance encounter between two strangers turns electric when an unseen immigration arrest unfolds nearby. As tension rises, so does the question: stay silent and stay safe, or speak up and risk everything?
Proximity is a sharp, darkly funny 10 minute play about fear, identity, and the cost of being seen—where nothing is resolved, and everything is revealed.
Character Breakdown for Non-Union Roles
JESUS (30s, Latino)
Closeted, married, and deeply rooted in faith. Jesus is measured, controlled, and constantly aware of how he is perceived. He believes in keeping his head down and doing the “right” thing to protect his family. His tension comes from the gap between who he is and who he feels he must be.
BRIAN (30s - 40s, White)
Openly gay, sharp, and confrontational. Brian uses humor and intellect as both weapon and shield. He presents as confident and outspoken, but underneath is a deep loneliness and need to be seen. He challenges authority instinctively, often pushing situations further than is safe.
For consideration, submit H&R and a one minute or less monologue of actor's choice that reflects the character you are auditioning for.
