DESCRIPTION

The Winnipesaukee Playhouse in Meredith, NH is a year-round, 501(c)3 theatre producing professional, community, and educational theatre since 2004. We are currently seeking a Producing Artistic Director.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Producing Artistic Director serves as the chief executive and artistic leader of the theatre, responsible for guiding both the financial and artistic directions of the organization. This position combines visionary artistic leadership with disciplined fiscal and operational management, ensuring that the theatre’s productions and programs are artistically compelling, financially sustainable, and aligned with the organization’s mission and goals.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

EXECUTIVE AND FINANCIAL LEADERSHIP:
• Provide strategic leadership and overall management of the theatre’s operations, programming, and long-term organizational planning
• Oversee all major budgetary considerations, including annual operating budgets, production budgets, and earned/contributed revenue goals
• Evaluate and approve programming and production choices based on financial feasibility, staffing capacity, and revenue potential
• Work in partnership with the Board of Trustees to establish financial policies, reporting standards, and sustainable growth strategies
• Supervise fiscal planning and ensure financial accountability across all departments
• In collaboration with the Director of Development and the Board of Trustees, identify and develop new revenue sources, including grants, partnerships, and other creative income streams
• Participate in fundraising and donor cultivation as a representative of the theatre’s leadership
• Provide regular financial and organizational updates to the Board of Trustees
• Oversee the theatre’s long-term planning, including campus development and facility improvement projects
• Attend Board of Trustees meetings and serve on Board committees or subcommittees as appropriate

ARTISTIC LEADERSHIP:
• Maintain the theatre’s artistic vision, philosophy, and standards of excellence
• In collaboration with senior staff, select and program the professional seasons, balancing artistic ambition with fiscal responsibility
• In collaboration with key staff, hire and supervise directors, designers, and other creative personnel for all professional productions
• In collaboration with key staff, oversee casting decisions, including participation in local, state, and regional auditions.
• Direct at least one summer season production and one additional production annually
• Approve programming of visiting or outside professional groups
• In collaboration with key staff, help set the full season production calendar

ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP:
• Work collaboratively with the Board and staff leadership to ensure alignment of artistic and financial objectives
• Foster a workplace culture that values accountability, transparency, collaboration, and professional excellence—while maintaining a positive, inclusive, and enjoyable working environment
• Participate in regional and professional theatre organizations as appropriate to maintain visibility and connection within the industry
• Share Front of House duties and oversight with other senior staff as needed to ensure a positive and smooth audience experience
• Collaboratively post, hire, and support key staff positions, providing mentorship and guidance that fosters growth, cohesion, and long-term success within the organization
