POSITION OVERVIEW

The Head Carpenter will lead as the supervisor of the touring production for all technical departments. They are responsible for advancing with venues, loading the show in and out, and ensuring the performances run safely.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as a core member of the touring leadership team in collaboration with the Company Manager, Production Stage Manager, and Music Director.
- Lead the touring show crew through Load Ins, Load Outs, and Performances.
- Work with all Department Heads to plan for and ensure the correct, functional and optimal placement of all show gear in a venue
- Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained and in safe working order
- Create documentation for the technical aspects of each venue stop on the route
- Oversee the safe transportation and installation of touring elements, and check in on all departments during load in and load out
- Maintain a safe working environment in compliance with industry standard
- Run cues as assigned to the track and observe all scene changes for safety
- Track local and touring crew hours and wages per the prevailing contract and report to Company Management for payroll and settlement purposes
- Work closely with Production Management to advise on staffing needs and personnel concerns, including managing disciplinary action of all touring crew members; make best recommendations for open positions
- Understand the Employer’s safety handbook, specifically regarding Fall Arrest and Fall Prevention Protocols

KEY QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES
- Head Carpenter experience on national Broadway musicals
- Strong leadership skills with proven success guiding and supporting a diverse crew of varying skill levels
- Collaborative team player who is self-motivated and can work autonomously
- Ability to work long hours in close quarters with different types of personalities
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to completing both complex and routine tasks with precision.
- Excellent practical, problem-solving, organizational, planning and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Professional attitude and commitment to your work
- Ability to work under pressure
- Friendly with a positive attitude
- Ability to work an 8-show a week schedule, which may include additional calls outside of regular performances for rehearsals and work calls in addition to Load Out and Load In
- Ability to adapt to varying loud sound and flashing lighting environments
- Comfortable working in various spaces that may be dark and cramped
- Able to physically move 75 pounds, be comfortable lifting and walking backwards, and be comfortable walking up and down stairs.
- A valid passport or travel document that allows for international travel
- Valid Driver’s License / A valid Driver’s License is preferred

OTHER QUALIFICIATIONS
- Diverse backgrounds in the performing arts are welcomed
- Strong technical skills and understanding of stage machinery
- Proficiency in computer skills (PC and Mac)
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing programs
- Skill with AutoCAD, VectorWorks or other CAD programs
- Experience in traditional carpentry or related technical theatre work.
- Experience with automation systems in a theatrical setting is a plus, but not required
