SEEKING:

JANE BENNET: Late 20s - early-mid 30s. The eldest and most beautiful Bennet daughter. Kind, idealistic, diffident. Always tries to do the right thing. Can be a bit shy. Very close with Lizzy. Doubles as MISS DE BOURGH – Lady Catherine’s sickly, overbred daughter; communicates mostly in oneword phrases. A nasty, overindulged little gremlin. Rather keen on marrying Mr. Darcy.

LIZZY BENNET: Late 20s – early 30s. Clever, spirited; can be sharp-tongued and cynical. Gets flustered, which makes her klutzy. Prides herself on good judgment. Bit of a goofball. Not particularly beautiful. NOT interested in “catching a man”.

LYDIA: 16. The youngest Bennet. Lively, highly impressionable. Can put on airs. Enjoys balls, boys, and being right. Likes to matchmake; overindulged by her mother. Prides herself on cleverness.

Doubles as LADY CATHERINE: 50s. Patrician Caesar-meets-drill sergeant. One of the richest women in England. Everything is beneath her, but nothing is beneath her notice. Capable of being quite casually cruel; thinks she gives excellent advice. Unused to defiance; accustomed to flattery. Capable of being quite coquettish with men of her own social class – of which there are, perhaps, two in the world.

MRS. BENNET: 50s-60s. The matriarch of the Bennet family. The business of her life is to get her daughters married. High energy, high drama, high stakes constantly. Fancies herself a master strategist. Mostly a silly woman of variable temper; serious hypochondriac. Doubles as SERVANTS.

MR. DARCY: Late 30s-40s. One of the richest men in England. Too proper for his own good; awkward in most social contexts. Prides himself on self-control and good judgment. Not always great with words; says the wrong thing with some regularity.

MR. BINGLEY: 30s-40s. Loves the world and the world loves him. Wealthy. Inclined to exaggeration; impossibly good-natured, and thus easily led. A bouncy, impetuous golden retriever of a man. Doubles

as MARY: Late teens-20s. The third Bennet girl, the runt of the litter; prone to sulking. She likes

playing the piano (badly) and demonstrating her learnedness. She dislikes being forgotten or left out.

WICKHAM: 30s-40s. An unfairly handsome and charming gentleman serving as a Lieutenant in the local regiment. Raised with Mr. Darcy, whom he resents; has fallen from grace a bit since his upbringing. Knows just what to say, and just how to say it. Very good with the ladies. Doubles as MISS

BINGLEY: 20s-30s. A very rich young woman, sister to Bingley. Fancies herself very witty. Rather beautiful; impossibly elegant. Determined to land Mr. Darcy and despises Lizzy Bennet. Also, doubles as COLLINS: late 20s-40s. Rector to Lady Catherine, whom he worships like a God and is desperate to impress. A self-important academic. He tries hard to be impressive – unfortunately, he has an idiosyncratic quirk wherein he cannot quite, ever, land on the right word.

MR. BENNET: THIS ROLE IS CAST. 50s-60s. The patriarch of the Bennet family. Finds amusement in absurdity; often looks for a respectable escape from the chaos of his family life. Disappointed in his marriage; engages in the kind of long-term psychological warfare that unhappy couples practice. Quite fond of a few of his daughters. Doubles as CHARLOTTE LUCAS: Late 20s-30s. A practical girl with a good sense of humor. Not from much money. Like Lizzy, not particularly beautiful. Capable of being quite dry and wry. Ends up married to Mr. Collins whom she tolerates with some measure of success.

REN McCORMACK: Male, 18-25. Tenor. Teenager from Chicago. Fun quick witted and energetic, emotional, rebellious, likeable; emotes his pain through quirky sarcasm and dance; strong dancer; athletic skills a plus.

REVEREND SHAW MORRE: Male, 35-55. Baritone. The powerful, traditional local church leader; strict, stern, and solemn, still struggling with the death of his son. A strong singer – has solos.

ARIEL MORRE: Female, 18-25. Mezzo-Pop. Shaw and Vi’s daughter. Smart, a bit of the bad girl with an edge, sweet, she’s rebelling against her father’s stance, but she’s more mischievous than negative; role requires strong, solid voice. A confident singer/dancer.

VI MORRE: Female, 30-50. Soprano. Reverend Moore’s loving, supportive, resilient wife. Has a duet with Ethel – mature, vocal sound desired.

RUSTY: Female, 18-25. Soprano/pop voice. Ariel’s friend: a bit scatterbrained, sweet, fun, knows everything about everything; role requires strong voice, comedic timing and dance. Sings 3-part harmony with several solo lines.

WILLARD HEWITT: Male, 18-25. Tenor. A “country bumpkin” with a short temper but a warm heart and a big smile; comedic timing and dance a must. He “learns” to dance.

ETHEL McCORMACK: Female, 35-45. Soprano. Ren’s mother: had a tough go, just trying to make it through the relocation from Chicago…would do anything for her son. Has a duet with Vi – mature vocal sound desired.

CHUCK CRANSTON: Male, 18-25. Tenor. The local bad boy and Ariel’s boyfriend. Doesn’t like Ren. Sings fairly well; sings with Ariel with male back up.

URLEEN: Female, 18+. Mezzo/Alto. Ariel’s friend; the smart one of the group; role requires a strong singer, comedic timing, and dance. Sings 3-part harmony with several solo lines.

WENDY JO: Female, 18-25. Mezzo. Ariel’s friend: comedic timing, and dance required. Sings 3-part harmony with several solo lines.

BETTY: Owner of the Burger Blast. mature, comedic role. Must be able to roller skate.

LULU WARNICKER: Ren’s aunt, married to Wes. Character can sing, but does not have to sing or dance well, Age 30-45.

WES WARNICKER: Ren’s uncle, married to Lulu, Character can sing, but does not have to sing or dance well, Age 30-45.

MARK COHEN: A filmmaker and video artist who often feels like an outsider looking in. Though he comes from privilege, Mark longs to understand his responsibility to his community and craves the closeness he once shared with his friends. TOM COLLINS: An NYU professor of technology, grounded in anarchy and liberation. As a Black man living with HIV, he brings both resilience and warmth to his chosen family. Intelligent, compassionate, and deeply empathetic, Collins is the backbone of the group, inviting others to reflect on personal accountability. His new love with Angel further roots him in their community. Gender: Male. Vocal range top: A4. Vocal range bottom: F#2

BENJAMIN COFFIN III: Former roommate and now landlord of Mark and Roger. A person of color navigating privilege and belonging, Benny is torn between loyalty to his chosen family and the expectations of his wealthy in-laws. Often viewed as a sellout, he wrestles with identity, community, and the cost of assimilation while still longing for connection with his past. Gender: Male. Vocal range top: F#4. JOANNE JEFFERSON: A public interest lawyer who fights fiercely for the underdog. Raised in a conservative, upper-class Black family, Joanne is out, proud, and determined to define her own liberation. Her relationship with Maureen draws her into the chosen family, where she learns the power of being fully celebrated. Smart, purposeful, and grounded. Gender: Female. Vocal range top: E5. ANGEL DUMOTT SCHUNARD: A vibrant, gender-nonconforming street musician living with HIV. Angel is magnetic, stylish, and radiant —a fashion icon with an artistic spirit rooted in rhythm, movement, and storytelling. They inspire joy and connection, becoming both Collins’ partner and the heart of the chosen family. Artistically reminiscent of Prince, Grace Jones, or a young RuPaul. Gender: Any. MIMI MARQUEZ: A dancer determined to live in the moment while navigating addiction and life with HIV. SISTER MARY ROBERT: A postulant, abandoned as a baby and raised at the convent. Shy and softspoken but singing with Deloris lets her find her voice. Her wallflower lifestyle has made her live a shell of a life. Gender: female. Age: 16 to 25

SISTER MARY PATRICK: A nun of the convent. Consistently perky, enthusiastic, and easily excitable. Gender: female. Age: 35 to 50

SISTER MARY LAZARU: A nun of the convent and the head of the choir. Rather deadpan and the least welcoming of any of the nuns, but she gets caught up in Deloris's soul music. Gender: female. Age: 50 to 70+

MONSIGNOR 0’HARA: One of the heads of the convent. Constantly concerned with financial matters, though soul music surprisingly puts him in a different mood. Gender: male. Age: 45 to 60+

CURTIS: A club owner, notorious gangster, and Deloris's boyfriend. Cocky and controlling, always on the verge of violence. Gender: male. Age: 30 to 40

EDDIE SOUTHER: The desk chief at the Philadelphia police station and a high school classmate of Deloris who helps get her into hiding. Faces a lot of nerves when under pressure, causing him to sweat profusely. He still yearns for Deloris after all these years, and dreams of being her hero. Gender: male. Age: 25 to 35

TJ: Curtis's nephew and one of his thugs. Deft and cognizant of the fact, constantly in a state of ignorant bliss. Gender: male. Age: 16 to 30

JOEY: One of Curtis's thugs. Believes himself to be quite the ladies' man. Gender: male. Age: 30 to 40

PABLO: One of Curtis's thugs. A natural follower constantly speaks in Spanish. Gender: male. Age: 25 to 40
