Vocal Range: Baritone

A talented and emotionally complex student at SWAPA. Jessie is closeted and struggling with his sexuality, mental health, and an abusive home life. Fiercely creative but often overlooked, he longs to be seen and understood. His journey centers on discovering self-love and finding the courage to live authentically.

Female-presenting | 18–30
Intended for a performer of color (Black, Latinx, Asian, Indigenous, etc.)

A confident and beloved theatre student who seems to have it all. Grace’s world begins to crumble when she discovers Jessie’s betrayal with Andrew. Beneath her anger lies heartbreak and deep emotional conflict.

Seeking: Powerful vocalist with strong acting ability.

Alexa Yuri

Lovable, ditzy, and unintentionally hilarious. Alexa’s chaotic logic and unpredictable thought process often steal the scene. Naïve but kind-hearted.

Seeking: Strong comedic timing and character presence.

Timmy Polinski

Sweet, loyal, and slightly clueless. Timmy brings humor and warmth to the friend group while remaining a genuine supporter of Jessie. Often comedic, but capable of surprising emotional sincerity.

Seeking: Strong comedic instincts and naturally likable stage presence.

FAMILY ROLES

Jessie’s Siblings

Christine, Michaela, David
20–30 | Latinx | Any gender

Jessie’s siblings serve as voices of compassion and innocence within a fractured household. They witness the abuse Jessie endures and struggle with the pain of being bystanders. Christine in particular finds the courage to challenge their parents and defend Jessie.

Seeking: Actors capable of sincerity and emotional sensitivity.

Note: These performers may also double as students in the SWAPA ensemble.

Jessie’s Parents

40s–60s | Latinx | Any gender

Jessie’s parents represent the oppressive and volatile home environment he struggles to escape. Their rigid expectations and harsh treatment deeply affect Jessie’s emotional well-being and identity.

Seeking: Strong dramatic actors capable of portraying intensity and emotional complexity.

Note: These performers may also double as faculty roles or ensemble characters.

FACULTY ROLES

Ms. Heart

Dance Teacher
30s–60s | Female-presenting, non-binary, or trans woman | Any ethnicity

A perfectionist instructor with a brutal teaching style. Ms. Heart pushes students relentlessly toward excellence, often crossing emotional boundaries. She is intimidating, sharp-tongued, and unapologetically demanding, especially toward Jessie.

Seeking: Strong stage presence with commanding authority.
