Overview
The Draper with other staff is responsible for construction of all assigned costume pieces for all shows/events; also load-in, set-up and strike of costumes in Charleston Stage productions. Under the direction of the Costume Shop Manager , the draper/ cutter builds, alts, and other costume needs that assist the costume designers vision and artistic intent. They will be a collaborative member of the costume shop staff and finding solutions to problems/builds in a position creative environment.

Full Time Staff Position, 12 Month Contract
Salary:
$50,000 annually
Includes health & dental benefits and a 401K plan.
Qualifications
Full knowledge& training in all costume/ fashion construction skills.
Able to interpret sketches and drawings created by the Costume Designer to create
Able to determine yardage for fabrics and trime for costumes
Able to participate in all actor fittings for both adult and child acotrs
Excellent communication skills to directors, designers , and actors
Ability to be proactive, self-motivated, and highly organized in time management, and scheduling.
Ability to work under time pressure and meet deadlines.
Understanding of advanced costume terms and sewing methods .
Masters, BFA, BA or similar degree in technical theatre.
Minimum 2-year Experience in a professional theater setting
Strong computer skills (preferably MAC and google docs)
Experience with InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator are helpful.
Possession of a valid driver’s license and your own vehicle.
Physical requirements
Ability to work long hours and work with a flexible schedule.
May have to work at heights, around moving machinery with exposure to noise, vibration, and dust.
Must be willing to travel and work at various work sites in Charleston.
Ability to work safely in an environment containing potentially hazardous electrical equipment, fumes and/or materials.
Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting, bending, standing, climbing and/or walking and ability to safely lift at least 50 pounds.

Basic Responsibilities
Read and become familiar with all scripts for the season.
With the Costume Shop Manager , plan and provide assist in of all Charleston Stage worn pieces.
Assist with all costume shop need , including housekeeping and shop upkeep as needed
Assist in providing oversight and management of inventories, tools & equipment with reporting all needs to the Costume Shop Manager
Able to work within a set budget for a season and for individual productions
Scheduling
Attend all and any All Staff Meetings , production , designer , or other meetings as set by the Production Manager or Costume Shop Manager
Assist in all build schedule needs and work in coordination with the Costume Shop Manager to maintain these schedules for each production to meet goals and deadlines.
Running Crew Duties
You may be assigned running wardrobe duties on select productions when needed or when lead Wardrobe or WINGS Dressers fall ill with limited notice. This will be determined by shop needs and scheduling through the Costume Shop Manager
Load-in/Strike Duties
Assist at load-in to the theatre for each production.
Provide assistance to complete designs and construction onstage.
Help maintain inventories at the theatre in coordination with Wardrobe and the Costume Shop Manager
Assist with all strikes.
Teaching
Charleston Stage considers education to be an integral part of our mission and a solid commitment to incorporate technical and design education for our TheatreWings High School Apprentices is an essential part of our design/build process. Teaching includes:
Assist in organizing and teaching a Costume Master class for TheatreWings High School Apprentices., run by the Costume Shop Manager.
Assist with managing TheatreWings High School Apprentices at shop and backstage at the theatre during tech rehearsals and performances when needed.
