A SHERLOCK CAROL

Written by Mark Shanahan

Directed by Erin E. Dolan

First Rehearsal: 11/3/26

Performance dates: 12/3/26 - 1/3/27

Casting Note (from the playwright): The actors are inhabiting the “idea” of the iconic characters and can be cast in any number of ways. The actors are, after all, only spirits—which, as the play states, are around us all the time, guiding our way. Age, ethnicity and gender are all up for grabs in the casting, as is the suggestion of the break-down of roles.

SEEKING:

SHERLOCK HOLMES - The World's Foremost Consulting Detective, in decline.

EBENEZER SCROOGE - Formerly a miser. One Christmas, Scrooge transformed into as good a man as the good old city ever knew.

DR. TIMOTHY CRATCHIT - doubles as MR. TOPPER, RALPH FEZZIWIG, CONSTABLE BRADSTREET

EMMA WIGGINS - doubles as FANNIE GARDNER, INSPECTOR LESTRADE, MRS. WINDIGATE

DR. WATSON - doubles as MRS. DILBER, HENRY BURKE, OLD JOE BRACKENRIDGE

CAROLER - doubles as ELDERLY WOMAN, COUNTESS OF MORCAR, MARTHA CRATCHIT, MARY MORSTAN, ABBY FEZZIWIG

WALDEN

Written by Amy Berryman

Directed by Nathan Motta

First Rehearsal: 12/28/26

Performance dates: 1/28/27 - 2/21/27

Casting Note (from the playwright): Cassie and Stella should look like sisters and be of similar builds, but they need not look like identical twins. They look different, have different blood types, and have therefore always assumed themselves fraternal. The characters should reflect a more and more diverse America.

SEEKING:

STELLA (female, early 30s) - Cassie’s twin sister. Former NASA colony architect, her mouth moves quickly to catch up with her even faster brain, her thoughts zigzag like tracing a constellation. She is still deeply heartbroken she will never go to space, harbors secrets and resentment as she struggles to welcome her sister into her new life. Born first.

CASSIE (female, early 30s) - Stella’s twin sister. NASA botanist, physically strong, seems put together in the midst of all her success, but inside is doubtful and falling apart. Overwhelmed by the deeply human experience she is having since landing back on Earth. She digs and uproots. Looking for a way to blow up her life, as well as looking for a way to get closer to her sister. Born second.

BRYAN (male, mid 30s) - Stella’s fiancé́. A member of the populist political movement Earth Advocates, laid back, kind, emotionally open, strong, still grieving the loss of his brother, struggling with the wall Stella has built around herself. A different racial, ethnic, or cultural background than Cassie and Stella.

MARY JANE

Written by Amy Herzog

Directed by Leighann Delorenzo

First Rehearsal: 2/9/27

Performance dates: 3/11/27 - 4/4/27

Casting Note (from the playwright): Besides Mary Jane, all roles are doubled, so that five actors are required.

SEEKING:

MARY JANE - A woman in her 30s

RUTHIE / TENKEI (female, 60s or 70s) - A building superintendent / A Buddhist nun

SHERRY / DR. TOROS (female, 40s or 50s) - A nurse / A pediatric intensivist

BRIANNE / CHAYA (female, 30s or early 40s) - A Facebook friend / A Hasidic woman

AMELIA / KAT (female, 20s) - Sherry's niece, a college student / A music therapist

NETTA & RU

Written by Lisa Langford

Directed by Chennelle Bryant-Harris

First Rehearsal: 3/23/27

Performance dates: 4/22/27 - 5/16/27

Possible extension to 5/23/27

SEEKING:

RUBY (female, 20-30) - Shame-free sex worker, root worker, and hoodoo practitioner. Her magic has been failing her ever since her mother, Mama Mama, died.

NETTA (female, 20-30) - African American, Ruby’s play-sister. Orphaned by a shameful incident, Netta is determined to rise above her station and be a married member of the best church in Montgomery.

LUKE (male, 20-30) - African American, Netta’s fiancé. Good-hearted guy, serial cheats, often with Ruby. He causes friction between Netta and Ruby.
