Equity actors for roles in COME FROM AWAY (See breakdown).
All roles will be understudied.
In casting COME FROM AWAY, Virginia Repertory Theatre endeavors to be as inclusive as possible. We invite all performers, including gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors, to audition for the roles they most identify with. We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities.
PREPARATION
Please prepare 32-bars of either a story/acting-driven song or something from the COME FROM AWAY score. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music in the proper key. Also, you will be given a monologue to prepare. Monologues will be shared, with instructions, after appointments are scheduled. Memorization is not required, but familiarity is encouraged.

Breakdown
COME FROM AWAY
SEEKING:
CLAUDE: Male identifying, 40s–60s, open ethnicity. Vocal range: up to G4. The gregarious and well-loved Mayor of Gander, Newfoundland. Claude loves his town, the people in it, and the comfort of his daily routine. A natural leader whose warmth and optimism help guide the town through crisis.
BONNIE: Female identifying, 30s–40s, open ethnicity. Vocal range: up to B4. A practical, no-nonsense mother of three and the head of the Gander SPCA. Bonnie works tirelessly to care for the animals left aboard the grounded planes.
BEULAH: Female identifying, 40s–60s, open ethnicity. The welcoming and compassionate head of the Gander Legion, with a firefighter son. Beulah becomes a source of comfort to many, forming a meaningful friendship with Hannah.
OZ: Male identifying, 30s–50s, open ethnicity. Vocal range: up to G4. The quirky constable in Gander’s two-person police force. Friendly and compassionate, Oz is a helper by nature and plays an important role in supporting the community.
JANICE: Female identifying, 20s–30s, open ethnicity. Vocal range: up to E5. An eager and inexperienced local TV reporter. On her first day on the job, Janice is suddenly thrust into covering an unprecedented global event.
BEVERLY / ANNETTE: Female identifying, 50s–60s, White. Vocal range: up to C#5. BEVERLY: The first female captain for American Airlines. Confident, capable, and passionate about flying.
ANNETTE: A local teacher at Gander Academy and mother who helps care for stranded passengers.
DIANE: Female identifying, 50s–60s, open ethnicity. Vocal range: down to D5. A traditional divorcee from Texas. Diane grows increasingly anxious as she fears her son may have been flying during the attacks.
NICK / DOUG: Male identifying, 50s–60s, open ethnicity. Vocal range: up to E4. NICK: An English oil engineer focused on his work and routine whose life changes when he meets Diane. English accent required. DOUG: An air traffic controller married to Bonnie who does his best to help both his wife and the stranded animals.
KEVIN T / GARTH: Male identifying, 30s–50s, open ethnicity. Vocal range: up to G4. KEVIN T: A confident and somewhat controlling traveler. GARTH: The head of the local union representing the bus drivers.
KEVIN J: Male identifying, 30s–50s, MENASA (Middle Eastern, North African, and South Asian). Kevin T’s boyfriend and assistant. Intelligent, sarcastic, and increasingly frustrated, Kevin wants to leave Gander as soon as possible.
BOB: Male identifying, 20s–40s, Black. A hardened New Yorker who is suspicious of where he’s landed and slow to trust the hospitality around him.
HANNAH: Female identifying, 40s–60s, open ethnicity. Vocal range: up to E5. The mother of a firefighter in Manhattan. While waiting for news about her son, Hannah forms a deep and supportive friendship with Beulah.
