Thank you for your interest in auditioning for the role of LEO Tin Can Contingency's production of Dragoness by Cha Mangan, directed by Samantha Toy Ozeas. Please follow the instructions in the google form.
About Dragoness:
Dragoness follows two Asian painters from rural Pennsylvania, RAE and LEO, during their first year of a prestigious fellowship under the stewardship of TOBY, their pushy and vocal boss. When white-passing LEO, whose work exploits violence against Asian women's bodies, gains clout as the new local “up-and-coming” Asian artist, RAE collaborates with LEO's ex, STEPHEN, on a takedown article to cancel her rival.
Dragoness interrogates the ethics of reinventing art and identity to fit the interests of those in power and asks: what does it mean to represent your community when profit is involved?
About the character:
LEO: White passing woman of asian descent (Wasian). Pretentious, edgy. Raised in PA. Has a deep jealousy of Rae. Digs into asian womanhood as the topic of her art. A well known regional artist, on the brink of becoming huge. Recovering alcoholic. Mid 20s.
