BECKY SHAW

SEEKING:

SUZANNA SLATER: E-M30s. A graduate student, recently married and grappling with her father’s recent death and her own complicated family dynamics. Self-aware, yet deeply self-involved, her insecurities often subvert her desire for independence. Intelligent, articulate, privileged and neurotic, she has a sense of humor that is both self-deprecating and biting.

MAX GARRETT: M-L30s. Raised by Suzanna’s parents, he’s a successful financial manager. Bluntly opinionated, articulate, and aggressively judgemental, he guards his underlying need for love with emotional barbed wire. Beneath his charming but highly cynical exterior is a genuine love and loyalty to Suzanna, though he struggles to express it. Has a wicked sense of humor, capable of inflicting damage.

ANDREW PORTER: L20s-E30s. Suzanna’s husband, an attractive, sensitive and idealistic writer currently working an unfulfilling office job. Earnest and good hearted, he sees the best in people to a sometimes naive degree. Although he’s genuinely compassionate and devoted to Suzanna, he’s unaware of his own savior complex which can verge on the self-righteous.

BECKY SHAW: L20s-M30s. A co-worker of Andrew’s. Attractive, seemingly warm and charming. Her appealing exterior masks her profound insecurities and desperation about almost every aspect of her life and circumstances. While at first glance Becky can appear fragile and in desperate need of protection, that misleading exterior masks a person who can be wildly manipulative, who stops at nothing to get her way.

SUSAN SLATER: 60s. Recently widowed and dealing with health issues, she is Suzanna’s highly opinionated and judgmental mother. A woman of wealth and breeding, she is emotionally blunt and unapologetically practical. Susan masks any vulnerability she might possess with caustic humor and brutal honesty. Her perspective on love and dependency stands in sharp contrast to her daughter’s. Formidable.
