DATES: Rehearsals will take place through May 4th- May 28th. The show runs May June 3rd at the Tank Theatre and June 5th-8th at the Bronfman Center at NYU.

ABOUT THE PLAY:

The classic play by acclaimed Jewish-French playwright Jean-Claude Grumberg, Dreyfus in Rehearsals, tells the story of a group of actors in a Jewish theater in Poland in the early 1930s. As they come together to stage a play about the Dreyfus Affair—then only thirty years in the past—they find themselves debating whether anti-Semitism is still relevant in their own time. The dramatic irony lies, of course, in the fact that we, the audience, know what will happen to the Jewish people of Europe shortly thereafter.

Our adaptation adds another layer to the original play, to be set in New York City in 2026. It will follow a diverse group of New York actors as they rehearse for a production of the French play Dreyfus in Rehearsals.

This additional layer will be developed collaboratively in rehearsal by the directors and cast. Through this devising process, we will bring contemporary perspectives into the piece—we welcome all religions, races, genders and ages to submit. Our objective is to create a collaborative and inclusive process that culminates in a true joined creative work from everyone.
