The Production Stage Manager is a partner in building and keeping up the structures and procedures that power the artistic work at the heart of Florida Studio Theatre’s mission. They keep rehearsals and performances running smoothly, make sure that communication is quick and accurate, and keep everything working according to plan. The PSM will stage manage up to seven productions themselves while also helping to oversee, coordinate, and evaluate stage management operations. This includes providing mentorship for a cohort of stage management interns. This individual is a key staff member – a critical contributor to the FST community.
Job Responsibilities Include:
- Stage manage up to seven productions annually under a LORT-D Non-Rep agreement at Florida Studio Theatre.
- Serve as a central hub for production-related communication, especially with actors and creative team members as well as appropriate FST staff.
- Create, communicate, and follow up on standard stage management reports (daily calls, rehearsal and performance reports, production meeting notes) and any additional reporting needed to help support individuals productions.
- Set up rehearsal room for the day’s work (tables and chairs, spike marks, rehearsal props as provided) and restore the room to a “ready” state.
- Ensure the accurate recording of blocking notation.
- Support actors by making sure that prompting is clear and professional.
- Work with the Director of Production and other production staff to prepare for and ensure that technical rehearsals run smoothly.
- Supervise and coordinate backstage operations and ensure the running crew executes its duties safely and consistently.
- Call cues for all performances making sure that lighting, sound, scenic, and projection elements have the dramatic impact intended by their respective designers
- Support actors and crew members by giving notes after opening as needed in order to maintain the artistic intentions of the director, designers, and other creative team members.
- Coordinate with house managers and other front of house personnel to navigate opening/closing the house, holds, late seating, emergencies, and other audience issues affecting the smooth running of the performance.
- Call and run any necessary after-opening rehearsals including understudy rehearsals.
- Maintain a safe, respectful workplace consistent with AEA requirements and the requirements of other unions as appropriate.
- Contribute to FST core culture by upholding company policies and procedures.
- Provide leadership, training, coordination, and expertise regarding stage management processes.
Job Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience (3-5 years preferred) as an AEA Stage Manager – even better if you have experience as a Production Stage Manager, Production Manager, or in another similar position
- Comfort and familiarity with AEA agreements – experience with LORT agreements is a plus
- Understanding of organizational leadership and the humanity that is always at its core
- Excitement at the idea of managing multiple priorities and schedules for simultaneous productions in a busy, fast-paced professional theatre environment
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite is a plus
- Familiarity and comfort with stage management / theatrical technologies such as StageWrite, QLab, etc is a plus
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
Reports to: Director of Production
Compensation: Position is contracted on AEA (LORT-D Non Rep) agreement. $1,035 weekly minimum ($1,097 beginning 6/29/2026). Salary higher commensurate with experience.
