DESCRIPTION

CASTING: FEMALE ACTOR (70's-80's) to play three characters in The Menopause Monologues at HERE Arts Center April 30- May 3 2026

Please include a photo/resume and reel (if you have it) with your application.

The Menopause Monologues is a theatre movement that provides space for storytelling and community around menopause. Our show consists of traditional monologues but also includes dance, live figure painting, poetry and puppetry, accompanied by projections that help tell each woman's story.

All of our pieces are written or created by women telling their true life menopausal stories. Some are professional performers but some are stepping on stage for the first time ever! In each city we visit, we hold a creative workshop three months before production to incorporate local stories into our show.

At the end of each show, we feature a Q&A with a local menopause specialist who answers questions from the audience. At Theatre of NOTE in LA, we were joined by Dr. Suzanne Gilberg-Lenz (Menopause specialist from the Drew Barrymore Show) and Dr. Rajita Patil, a founding member of the UCLA Comprehensive Menopause Care Program. Our impressive roster of doctors for our NYC run includes Dr. Kathleen Jordan (C.M.O. of Midi Health)

Our sold-out series of performances in the Bay Area and L.A. have propelled us forward in an exciting way and we are so thrilled to bring the show to NYC at the end of April. We will be performing at HERE Arts Center in Soho.

Our show is an ensemble piece in nature but we have been very lucky to have notable actors like Kirsten Vangsness (Criminal Minds), who will join us in NYC, and Jayne Taini (Ray Donovan, The Pitt) in our cast.

We are looking to cast an actor who will perform three monologues (two short and one medium sized) by writers we call the "Wise Woman." They were written by women in different parts of the country telling their stories about what it was like to go through menopause in their time.

** 2-3 Zoom rehearsals are required before in person rehearsals begin on April 25.
