BREAKDOWN
A FUNNY THING HAPPENEDON THE WAY TO THE FORUM
Director's Note: The cast of actors will be ethnically diverse, singer-comedians who move well and are skilled in a slapstick style of broad comedy. A sense of humor is mandatory! And please be familiar
with this show.
Age ranges, and genders for some roles, are not specified. This production concept is an itinerant company of actors presenting FORUM as part of their repertoire, like a 21st Century Vaudeville troupe. In the script, the Authors note, “This is a scenario for vaudevillians.”
SEEKING:
Prologus/Pseudolus: Any gender. Introduces the audience to the comedy. A Roman slave, owned by Hero, who seeks to win his freedom. Quick-witted, scheming, childlike spirit. A Vaudevillian. Vocal
range: top A4 - bottom A2
Proteans (3): Any gender. Extremely versatile. Will play Romans, Soldiers and all the Courtesans (Gymnasia, Tintinabula, Vibrata, The Geminae, Panacea). Circus skills (tumbling, juggling, balancing) a plus! The Proteans are extremely important to this production.
Senex: male. A prominent Roman and father to Hero and husband to Domina. Vocal range: top G4 – bottom B2
Domina: female. Senex's wife and mother to Hero. Vocal range: top F5 - bottom: B3
Hysterium: Any gender. Chief slave in the House of Senex. Vocal range: top G5 - bottom D4
Hero: male. Son of Senex and Domina, in love with Philia. Vocal range: top: G4 - bottom: B2
Marcus Lycus: Any gender. A neighbor of Senex and the owner of the house of Courtesans. Vocal range: top F5 - bottom A3
Philia: female. A virgin in the House of Lycus (we learn is Erronius' daughter), promised to Miles and loves Hero. Vocal range: top G5 bottom B3
Erronius: male. A neighbor of Senex and a father searching for his lost children (stolen by pirates). Vocal range: top G4 - bottom B2
Miles Gloriosus: male. A captain in the Roman army and promised to Philia. Vocal range: top F5 - bottom B3
