Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, a Silicon Valley–set musical drama, has received a series order from NBC. Jane Levy stars in the title role of the Lionsgate and Universal project, about a computer coder who suddenly realizes she can hear other people's innermost thoughts, which take the form of elaborate musical numbers.
Oscar winner and Broadway alum Mary Steenburgen is also among the cast as Zoey's mother, as are musical theatre favorites Alex Newell as Zoey's neighbor, Skylar Astin as her co-worker and best friend, and Tony nominee Carmen Cusack, her tech pioneer boss.
The hour-long series hails from Austin Winsberg (Broadway's First Date), who penned the pilot and produces alongside FeigCo’s Paul Feig and Jessie Henderson, The Tannenbaum Co., and Polygram’s David Blackman and Daniel Inkeles. Richard Shepard directs.
The Peacock network has a history of blending musical theatre and serial drama, with such past shows as Smash and Rise.
