The songwriting team of Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich is headed west to the Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood, California, to tell stories and sing songs from their musicals including Ever After, Hollywood Romance, Funny Songs About Love, and more on October 3.
Continuing the tradition of their free-form, friend-filled evenings, the 8:30 PM concert, titled Marcy & Zina, will include appearances from Charlie Shahnaian, Jonathan Root, Gwen Hollander, and Broadway tenor Adam Hunter. They will be joined by Sarah O Brien on cello and Kenny Wild on bass.
Goldrich told Playbill, “Marcy and I always look forward to performing at Catalina, because it’s a real family reunion. Let’s just say my dad has his trumpet ready.”
Heisler said, "Half the fun of these shows is there’s always something classic, something present, and something right-out -of-the box—they are ever-changing, off-the-cuff and full of surprises, even though we’ve been performing together for over two decades!”
The duo, who are also responsible for the scores to Dear Edwina and Snow White, Rose Red, have been collaborating since 1993, winning the ASCAP’s Richard Rodgers Award, the Fred Ebb Award, and the Kleban Prize. Their songs include cabaret favorites “Taylor, the Latte Boy” and “Alto's Lament.”
They adapted the Junie B Jones book series into an Off-Broadway and touring favorite, with a cast album currently available on iTunes. They collaborated with Julie Andrews on an adaptation of her children’s book, The Great American Mousical (written with her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton), which Andrews directed at Goodspeed Musicals. The show has a libretto by Hunter Bell.
Heisler has also contributed songs for several Disney projects, including Johnny and The Sprites (Disney Television), Pooh’s Learning Adventures (Disney Toon Studios), and The D Show (Disney Interactive).
The Catalina Jazz Club is located at 6725 West Sunset Boulevard. Tickets cost $25 plus a two-drink minimum, and can be ordered here, or via phone at (323) 466-2210.
