Tony nominee Andrew Rannells, Zacahary Quinto, and Matt Bomer stopped by The Today Show May 15 to discuss bringing Mart Crowley’s The Boys in the Band to Broadway.

The trio was initially scheduled to be a quartet, but their co-star Jim Parsons is currently recovering from a minor injury (he’s expected to return to the show this week). “I was behind him when he fell, but I just want to clear up any rumors: I didn’t have anything to do with the fall,” Rannells said. “I just want to put that out there.”

Tumbles aside, the cast is excited to eager to bring the landmark piece, about a group of gay New Yorkers in the late ‘60s, to Broadway. “The essence of the play really is about the social context in which it takes place, so there’s no way to really update it,” explained Quinto. “Part of what’s so exciting about doing it now—50 years after it was written—is how far we’ve come in that amount of time. This moment, I think socially and politically, is a great time to present this to audiences.”

The production, directed by Joe Mantello, will officially open at the Booth Theatre May 31. Performances are scheduled through August 11.
