Manhattan Theatre Club has announced that it will present the world premiere of Anthony Giardina's Dan Cody’s Yacht as part of its 2017–2018 season Off-Broadway. Tony winner Doug Hughes (Doubt, The Father) will direct the new play next spring.
Dan Cody’s Yacht is set to begin previews May 15, 2018, ahead of an official opening June 6 at MTC at New York City Center – Stage I. Casting and a full creative team will be announced at a later date.
Set in a small Boston suburb, the new play follows a single mother and schoolteacher who receives an incredible financial proposal from one of her student’s parents. The story, according to producers, is loosely inspired from a passage in The Great Gatsby and “probes the troubling relationship of finance to educational opportunity in American life today.”
Giardina’s plays include The City of Conversation, Living at Home, and Scenes from La Vie de Boheme, which all played Off-Broadway.
