Directed by BT McNicholl — the associate director for Broadway's Billy Elliot and Spamalot — the new comedy will play the Cherry Lane Theatre Aug. 9, 14, 16, 20 and 23. Ray Wills, whose Broadway credits include The Producers, Wonderful Town, Big and Anna Karenina, will star as Rodney Rangler, described in press notes as "a sly San Francisco crook who takes on many roles — New Age guru, Hollywood agent, old lady, plumber, and performance artist — as he squeezes money from the gullible people around him." Wills will be joined onstage by Fred Rose (Company, Cabaret), John De Domenico (Donald Trump in "Meet The Spartans"), Jim Barry, Kristen Cerelli, Laura Daniel and Tyler Hollinger.
Kaboom! is loosely based on Small's 15 years as a reporter for People Magazine. He is also the author of Off-Broadway's The It Girl.
The comedy is co-produced by Joan Cullman Productions.
The Cherry Lane Theatre is located in Manhattan at 38 Commerce Street. Tickets, priced $15, are available by visiting www.FringeNYC.org. For more information visit kaboomtheplay.com.
