The 33rd annual festival, which ran July 15-20, selected six plays for licensing and publication by Samuel French, Inc. The winning works were culled from a group of 40 plays included in the festival. Samuel French expects to publish the collection of winning plays in fall-winter.
The winning short plays include The Dying Breed by Thomas Higgins, The Thread Men by Thomas C. Dunn, Ayravana Flies or A Pretty Dish by Sheila Callaghan, F**king Art by Bekah Brunstetter, The Grave by Gabe McKinley and Juniper; Jubilee by Janine Nabers.
Adjudicating the Samuel French Off-Off-Broadway Short Play Festival were playwrights Thomas Bradshaw (Strom Thurmond Is Not a Racist; Purity), Kathleen Clark (Southern Comforts; Secrets of a Soccer Mom), Israel Horovitz (Barking Shark; My Old Lady), Shirley Lauro (A Piece of My Heart; Open Admissions), Eduardo Machado (The Cook; Kissing Fidel) and Jane Milmore (Love, Sex and the IRS; Confessions of a Dirty Blonde).
Also on hand to select the winning works were representatives from the following agencies: Beacon Artists Agency, The Gersh Agency, Bret Adams, Ltd., William Morris Agency, Abrams Artists Agency and International Creative Management.
