The world premiere of Anne Washburn’s Shipwreck officially opened February 19 at the Almeida Theatre in London. The piece, billed as “A History Play about 2017,” follows a group of white liberals who gather in an old New York farmhouse, where they incessantly discuss Trump’s presidency in the wake of the James Comey hearings.
Almeida Artistic Director Rupert Goold helms the production, with performances running through March 30. The cast features Khalid Adballa, Fisayo Akinade, Raquel Cassidy, Risteárd Cooper, Elliot Cowan, Tara Fitzgerald, Adam James, and Justine Mitchell.

Washburn’s additional plays include The Twilight Zone and Mr. Burns, a Post Electric Play for the Almeida, as well as 10 out of 12 and Antlia Pneumatica.
The staging includes set design by Miriam Buether, costumes by Fly Davis, lighting design by Jack Knowles, sound design by Paul Arditti, video design by Luke Halls, and original music by Max Perryment. Casting is by Amy Ball.
