The complete cast has been announced for Almeida Theatre’s production of Friedrich Schiller’s Mary Stuart, set to transfer to London’s West End this winter for a limited run beginning January 15, 2018. As previously announced, Juliet Stevenson and Lia Williams will once again trade the roles of Elizabeth I and Mary Stuart, decided at each performance by the toss of a coin.
Also reprising their roles from the critically acclaimed 2016 staging are Rudi Dharmalingam as Mortimer, David Jonsson as Davison, John Light as Leicester, Carmen Munroe as Kennedy, Eileen Nicholas as Melville, and Daniel Rabin as Kent.
Joining the cast in the West End will be Michael Byrne as Talbot, Christopher Colquhoun as Paulet, Calum Finlay as Aubespine, and Elliot Levey as Burleigh.
Directed by Robert Icke, who also wrote the new adaptation, Mary Stuart will officially open January 25 for a run scheduled through March 31.
The political drama delves into the unseen power-play of British history’s most crucial days.
Mary Stuart will then play a limited U.K. tour, visiting Theatre Royal Bath (April 4–14), Salford Lowry (April 17–21), and Cambridge Arts Theatre (April 23–28).
The production is designed by Hildegard Bechtler, with lighting by Jackie Shemesh, sound by Paul Arditti, video by Tim Reid, and original composition by Laura Marling. Casting is by Julia Horan CDG.
