Tony nominee Stephanie J. Block appeared on Live With Kelly & Ryan March 15 to sing from Broadway’s The Cher Show and talk about what it’s like to play the music legend. Block plays Star, the eldest of three versions of Cher depicted in the bio-musical.
“Cher's been around for six decades, so it takes three actresses,” she says. “But we get to talk to each other, so I get to counsel the younger ones. Or we come together and go, 'Oh God, why did we do that?' There's just this beautiful sistership that happens.”
Block first met Cher on Halloween 2017. “I was terrified. I hid. I didn't want to meet her before [the showcase]” Block recalled. “Our producer Flody Suarez came down and said, ‘You've been summoned; she really wants to meet you.’ It wasn't a have to, I was allowed to meet her...you feel her when she enters a room.
The most amazing thing about working with the Grammy– and Oscar-winning superstar, according to Block? “You feel like she's your neighbor, but at the same time you know she is the biggest star and the biggest icon around.”
